We welcomed Tavian into the world six weeks early. The afternoon before his birth, Erica’s friends had thrown her a surprise baby shower at work-- she still had 4 weeks before her maternity leave began. That evening, we had dinner with our good friends, Daryl & April, who were in town for the week (and also expecting). Around midnight, Erica realized something was very wrong. Tyler rushed her to the hospital where she had an emergency C-section. The doctor said both mother and child were extremely lucky-- most cases such as ours do not have positive outcomes.
